    Students will need to supply these materials

    This 2 part workshop expands abstract vocabulary through layering collage and paint. We’ll create a stash of hand painted papers then arrange these papers - puzzle-like - into abstract compositions. Elements of chance and intention merge in this format. Collage is a forgiving process allowing us to try out multiple ideas before committing to final designs. We’ll consider the importance of balancing quiet space with bolder elements of the work and how to contrast translucent and opaque paint.

    8 Students maximum

    Two 3hour classes

    REQUIRED MATERIALS LIST:

    PAPER & PAINT: abstract design

    Materials list:
    4 - 6 colors of water based paint - acrylic, gouache or watercolor

    4 - 6 Paint brushes (varied size and shapes)
    selection of drawing tools;
    pens, pencils, crayons, markers, oil pastels, graphite, charcoal

    2 Cradled panels (your choice of size no larger than 16 x 16) 1 rubber brayer

    paint scrapers, putty knives etc.
    selection of Washi papers; Rice paper, Mulberry, Sekichu
    gel medium, scissors, paint brushes, spray bottle, paper towel 1 pad palette paper

    Optional: stencils, decorative paper, books to repurpose
