Want to get into drawing but don’t know where to begin? Try this class! We will focus on exercises that increase both your confidence and understanding of drawing. Through multiple exercises and concentrated time to simply put pencil to paper, you’ll learn how to translate something from either a 3D object or a reference photograph into a convincing drawing that feels like you. We’ll go over traditional materials and techniques as well as some more modern and unconventional ways to approach rendering objects on paper. Because everything will be done in a sketchbook, you can relax into the progression, and know you always have the next page to implement more of what you learned. Even if you’re a seasoned artist, returning to the basics can be helpful, which is to say: all skill levels are welcome! 8 Students maximum.

*To reserve your place in any class, payment must be received at the time of registration.

*For a refund on any of our classes, we will need to be notified at least 48 hours in advance of the first class.

Please see materials list below! (All students get 20% off purchases made while enrolled in a class)

    MATERIAL LIST

*I’ve listed my recommendations here but I am very flexible in terms of what “type” of each material you get. The item in bold is the necessity and if you have something in that category, bring it along! You can always get something else with your 20% discount at the store if your item doesn’t work.

    ·   A sketchbook! - 9x12 Drawing is my favorite

    ·   At least 3 drawing pencils of varying "hardnesses” - I recommend HB, 4B & 8B for a good variance

    ·      Eraser – I like the white plastic ones

    ·      Ruler or straight edge

    ·      Reference photo (we’ll discuss more in class, you won’t need until week 2)

On a smartphone will work fine (tablet is usually even better if you have one) but I recommend bringing in a printed copy as well.

    ·      3D object to draw (again, we’ll discuss in class, you won’t need until week 4)
