    Students will need to supply these materials

    Creating a foundation is the key to helping solve some of the mystery of abstract painting. We will explore how we use color by mixing with a limited color palette using acrylic paint. By introducing an array of various drawing tools we will begin to explore shape, textured and line. This will be our jumping off point to discovering what abstract painting can become. So come prepared to explore different tools, techniques and surfaces. All experience levels welcome. This class is designed for returning and first time students. Maximum of 6 students. Two 3 hour sessions.

    ABSTRACT ACRYLIC MIXED MEDIA

    Our classes are now located at our "Studio North" location. When arriving make sure you have all your materials listed below for you class!

    Please have the following materials:

    Surfaces: Your choice- Canvas boards, Canson Acrylic Pad, stretched canvas- medium size approx:   9" x 12" or smaller 8" x 8", 10" x 10" etc.

    Gloves- if you are sensitive to any of these materials

    1 small bottle of acrylic matte medium

    PAINTS: acrylic heavy body paints (recommended- M. Graham or Golden), or Golden fluid acrylics

     *Choose two complementary colors: see colors to choose for these complements below:

    Red / true green (Analogous color choices = Purple,Orange,Blue or Yellow)

    Primary Yellow / Purple (Analogous color choices = Red, Orange,Blue or Green)

    Primary Blue / Orange (Analogous color choices = Purple,Red,Green or Yellow)

    *For our color study above please choose from the following pigment colors for the truest mixtures

    Reds: Cadmium Red or Napthol Red

    Orange: Cadmium Orange

    Yellow: Cadmium Yellow or Hansa Yellow

    Green: Permanent Green Lt.

    Blue: Ultramarine Blue

    Purple: Dioxazine Purple

    One analogous color (colors next to each other on the color wheel) from your choice of primaries.

    Titanium White, optional: Black

    #6 or #8 round or 1/4' or 1/2" flat/bright synthetic mixed media/acrylic brushes  ( I prefer stiffer bristle brushes)

    2 or more Caran d'ache neo color II ( water-soluble crayons) (at least two colors of your choice) 

    1 water-soluble graphite pencil (medium or dark)

    1 General Layout pencil or comparable

    Water soluble pencils: your choice- Stabilo Aquarelle, Stabilo Woody's, Durer , etc.

    palette paper

    shop towels- (we are no longer using paper towels for this class)

    palette knife (not too small

    any other tools you like to use for making marks ie. Paint pens, scraping tools etc

    optional: 

    printed text, rubber stamps, printed images (computer), printed text (repurposed books)
