This is a semi-weekly workshop in which we will ask ourselves: 1. what evokes in us a sense of longing for magical experiences? (for example: books, poetry, photography, film, artwork, music, memories) 2. what is the essence of the magic we long for? (let us name the specifics. the sensory details. the who what when where why how.) 3. what are we waiting for? what feels scary or off-limits and why? 4. what steps can we take to cultivate this magic in our actual lives? (this week, this month, this year) Through writing, drawing, and mixed media, we will collect our quiet noticing in our sketchbooks. We will explore what writing can look like - observational note taking, gathered word lists, and letting our voices run barefoot. We will spend time with imagery that feels meaningful to us - gathering external inspiration, and also looking inward to connect with our own imaginations. We will explore how that imagery ties in with the magic we long for and play with how to bring that imagery into our artwork. We will take time to share with each other and to enjoy a sense of community. {Our work is to welcome our own way of being into this world - and in turn, we will welcome others, too.} Maximum of 6 students. Eight 2.5-hour zoom sessions.
