If you want to know how to get a fuller range of colors from your watercolors using warm and cool primaries, build confidence in your selection of color combinations, and achieve more cohesiveness in your paintings, then this is the class for you. The focus will be on color mixing exercises and projects to gain experience. The goal is to emerge from this class feeling more confident in your abilities and instincts with color choices—and put you on the path to use color more predictably, creating the results you want. Introduction to Watercolor, or having some watercolor experience is helpful as a prerequisite to this class.

Four 2.5-hour sessions. Maximum of 7 students.

Watercolor Brushes: #4 round, #10 round, and 1” flat brush for washes
2 sheets 22 x 30 Fabriano Artistico 140 lb. cold press. (cut into quarters: 11 x 15” pieces) or similar (Arches cold press)
one plastic palette for mixing colors, recommend Sumi plastic or any palette with deep wells

The following watercolor* paints:
warm red: Pyrrole red light
cool red: Quinacridone red
warm yellow: Cadmium yellow deep
cool yellow: Hansa yellow light or Benzimidazolone yellow
warm blue: Ultramarine blue
cool blue: Phthalo Blue (green shade)

* Note: These colors are based on Qor paints. If you are using another brand, please consult with OAS staff if necessary for warm and cool primary color advice. There is also a split primary chart to refer to in store.

*Free parking is available on Saturdays and Sundays in the parking structure behind our store (street level; enter on 10th).

During the week there are six metered spots on the west wall of the 10th Street Parking Garage. If you need alternate/cheaper parking, there is the Overpark garage one block from the store (enter on Oak, just north of 10th).
