In this playful one day workshop, we’ll create two mixed media sketchbook pages - one layered, and one simple. We’ll start off with the building blocks: colors, marks, lines, shapes, textures, words, and thoughts. Then we’ll choose one favorite element to feature on the simple page. The rest will become a patchwork of sorts on the layered page. It’s a great way to to make use of *all the things* you create - even the things that seem imperfect. One 4 hour session. Maximum of 10 students.
(Please sign up no later than noon Sept. 8th to ensure time to receive class link)
***I am providing my favorites in parentheses, but please feel free to use what you have/prefer.
a sketchbook (I use a Global Arts Hand Book Journal 5.5 x 5.5 in.)
some separate drawing paper and/or watercolor paper for collage possibilities - loose or in a pad
(I use a 4x6 in. Global Arts Handbook drawing pad)
a lined journal for writing practice (or you could just use your sketchbook)
a glue stick (I use Uhu)
a pair of scissors
a pencil & eraser (I use a mechanical pencil)
a pen (I use a Uniball Vision - micro)
colored pencils, pastels, watercolors (or any other medium you feel comfortable using)
*if you are new to art making, please feel free to choose one medium! perhaps in a variety of colors
*if applicable, please be sure to have a pencil sharpener, brushes, a rag, a container of water
a book to use for word gathering (we will just be writing words down from it, not cutting the book up)
a treasured object to use as a drawing reference - perhaps a teacup or a pair of shoes.
anything you might want to incorporate into the collage work on your layered page: masking tape, fabric swatches, handmade papers, tea bag paper, etc.
