    If you want to know how to get a fuller range of colors from your watercolors using warm and cool primaries, build confidence in your selection of color combinations, and achieve more cohesiveness in your paintings, then this is the class for you. The focus will be on color mixing exercises and paintings based on those exercises to gain experience. The goal is to emerge from this class feeling more confident in your abilities and instincts with color choices—and put you on the path to use color more predictably, creating the results you want. Introduction to Watercolor, or having some watercolor experience is helpful as a prerequisite to this class. Our class will be on Zoom, a video chat software that is really easy to use. Just download the app on your device. I will provide you with a link before the first class . Click on it when class begins, and you are in! Four 2.5-hour sessions. Maximum of 8 students. (Please sign up no later than noon January 3rd to insure time to receive class link)

    REQUIRED MATERIALS LIST:

    PLEASE HAVE:

    • Watercolor Brushes: #4 round, #10 round, and 1” flat brush for washes

    • 2 sheets 22 x 30 Arches 140 lb. cold press. (cut into quarters: 11 x 15” pieces) or similar (Fabriano Artistico cold press)

    • at least one large or two small plastic palettes for mixing colors, recommend Sumi plastic (for a small palette) with deep wells, 12 or more mixing wells or cups is ideal

    • One inexpensive compass

    • One inexpensive protractor

    The following watercolor* paints:

    • warm red: Pyrrole red light

    • cool red: Quinacridone red

    • warm yellow: Cadmium yellow deep

    • cool yellow: Hansa yellow light

    • warm blue: Ultramarine blue

    • cool blue: Phthalo Blue (green shade)

    * Note: These colors are based on Qor paints. If you are using another brand, please consult with OAS staff if necessary for warm and cool primary color advice. There is also a split primary chart to refer to in store.

    * Also, Qor has an introductory set (5 ml tubes) called “Introductory 6 set” that has all but the Cadmium yellow deep (which you could purchase in addition to the set and have all that you need. Alizarin Crimson substitutes for the Quinacridone red in this set for the cool red. OAS carries this set.
