Experience the new directions that color can take you and your drawing skills. In this class, you will learn the techniques of successful wax-based colored pencil drawing, while learning to see color in all its complexities. You’ll learn about color relationships, layering, underpainting, and how color influences the colors around it. This class allows you to work on your drawing and observation skills, and gain the skills you’ll need to achieve beautiful results in this medium. No experience necessary. This class will also provide you with the colored pencil foundation you’ll need for other colored pencil classes offered, including Introduction to Botanical Drawing which will be offered in the spring. (Please sign up no later than noon February 1st ) Maximum of 8 students. Four 2.5-hour sessions.

PLEASE HAVE:
• From Prismacolor open stock: two pencils each: process red, true blue, canary yellow and one colorless blender pencil.
• One 9 x 12 pad of Canson Drawing paper, white, 111lb, #1557 Artist series
• Metal pencil sharpener: recommended Kum automatic long point sharpener
• One inexpensive portable drawing board (recommend Art Alternatives: Classic Tote Boards at OAS 13” x 17” or 18” x 18” size)
• an inexpensive compass
• an inexpensive protractor
• a ruler
*Students may need to purchase some other Prismacolor pencils from open stock as class progresses (colors that are handy to have for this class are are slate gray, parma violet, dark green, crimson red, and orange)
