Use your love of embroidery to bind books! There are many surprising and beautiful applications for decorative and functional embroidery stitches when making hand bound books. You will learn a variety of binding stitches, such as chain stitch, running stitch and French knots, to make single signature pamphlets. We will cover the basics of paper grain, tearing down and cover variations.

One six hour session. Maximum of 8 students.

a variety of 8 ½” x 11” papers appropriate for covers – the paper needs to fold without cracking

mechanical pencil

linen bookbinding thread – 3 colors of your choice

6” or 10” aluminum triangle (if you bring a plastic triangle, also bring a metal ruler)

bookbinding awl

bone folder

cutting mat

small Olfa brand xacto knife


any special papers you’d like to include in your book, i.e. decorative papers, graph papers, colored text weight paper

materials for decorating your papers – watercolors, collage materials, etc.

**For a refund on any of our classes, we will need to be notified at least 48 hours in advance of the first class. Please contact us by phone or in person to guarantee that you get refunded for the class you are canceling. Oregon Art Supply does not keep any personal credit information on file and therefore cannot process your refund by email.

*Free parking is available on Saturdays and Sundays in the parking structure behind our store (street level; enter on 10th).

During the week there are six metered spots on the west wall of the 10th Street Parking Garage. If you need alternate/cheaper parking, there is the Overpark garage one block from the store (enter on Oak, just north of 10th). The first hour is free!
