In this class you will learn how to make the French sewn binding. This particular binding is left exposed on the spine of the book allowing for both a decorative element and a book that opens flat. We will stitch 2 sample sized books with decorative soft cover variations. This workshop will give you lots of ideas and beautiful
books for yourself or to give as gifts.
One five hour session. Maximum of 8 students.

- quality paper for pages

- PVA and Nori paste

-straight needles

-book weights


-4 sheets 8 ½”x11” cover stock paper (2 sheets each of 2 colors; I like the Shishu/Indian cotton paper)

-mechanical pencil

-linen bookbinding thread – 2 colors of your choice

-6” or 10” aluminum triangle (if you bring a plastic triangle, also bring a metal ruler)

-bookbinding awl

-bone folder

-cutting mat

-small Olfa brand xacto knife


-any special papers you’d like to include in your book, i.e. decorative papers, graph papers, colored text weight paper

-materials for decorating your papers – watercolors, collage materials, etc.

*Free parking is available on Saturdays and Sundays in the parking structure behind our store (street level; enter on 10th).

During the week there are six metered spots on the west wall of the 10th Street Parking Garage. If you need alternate/cheaper parking, there is the Overpark garage one block from the store (enter on Oak, just north of 10th).
